Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

We had such a great holiday week and are grateful for all the family and memories... Here are some of our favorite highlights on film. As a little family, I hope that 2009 fills us with as many sweet moments as 2008 and I hope we remember to take the time to appreciate them!

Jaron and Maycee

Just wanted to post a picture of my awesome kiddos!! Don't tell...but we cheated and took Maycee's helmet off for the pictures! We had a great Thanksgiving Holiday. This year it was our turn to share the Turkey Dinner with Wendi's family.

The weekend before Thanksgiving Wendi's cousin was married in the Jordan River Temple so we went to Utah and stayed with Wendi's sister and bro in law. We all had our turkey dinner that weekend too so we had a lot of time to relax and hang out with each other on Thanksgiving Day!

Nothing new has happened in our lives lately...unless Wendi knows something that I don't...

Hope all of you have a great Holiday Season!

Top 10 reasons I love Maycee

Okay, as promised, here are the top 10 reasons that I love my little Mace-face... (and because Macs and blogger are not friends, I am not able to add any pictures to this post, but just know we have many and they are cute... )

Here we go...

10. I love that Maycee sleeps! She has slept 6 hours a night from day 1. She now sleeps about 12 hours and it gives me great gratitude in my long uninterrupted sleep.

9. I love that she isn't too picky. Our home is filled with people that all know what they want, and it is refreshing to have someone that is willing to go with the flow.

8. I love that Maycee also growls (much like her brother). She has a mean growl when she has had enough of something, and a nice growl when she gets really excited.

7. I love that Maycee has lots of beautiful hair. Even though you can't see it under her helmet, and we had to cut several inches off before she got her "party hat," it is still there and is so pretty!

6. I love that when you try to help hold Maycee's bottle, she first gently pats your hand as a reminder that she can do it herself. If you ignore her reminder, she begins slapping at you, and if you still ignore her, she moves to her mad growl and begins to kick you away until you let her be independent.

5. I love that Maycee loves her brother. She watches him with awe as he plays and anxiously awaits her turn to get some of his attention.

4. I love that Maycee loves to be held. Even though she will not cuddle in any way (boo-hoo for me...) she loves me or Ryan to hold her. She evens rubs my shoulder or pats my back while I tote her around.

3. I love the way Maycee claps.

2. I love that she lets me dress her up, and stick bright colored things on her head (bows) each day and rewards me with a smile whenever I look at her.

1. I love that she does things on her own time and in her own way. She is definitely her own Spirit, and I am grateful as well that Heavenly Father entrusted me to be her mom. I love you Maycee!

PS:  I asked Jaron to give me one reason he loves Mace and he said, "Because she is just my little princess, even though she sometimes scratches my face..."  Well said big brother!

Happy Birthday Wendi

Happy Birthday!!! Thank you for being such a sweet, technology savvy, intelligent, beautiful, patient, caring, loving, strong, talented, optimistic, supportive wife and mother!!! Have a great birthday!

Top 10 Reasons I love Jaron

Okay, so at our house this month we are focusing on thankful hearts. Each night at dinner we think of something we are each thankful for and then write it on a slip of paper and add it to our "thankful" chain. By the end of the month it should be pretty long. Jaron is even getting into it! (although I am trying not to take offense that each night when he is asked what he is thankful for he quickly answers "father"... when did he start calling Ryan father anyway???) We are trying to give him some other ideas of answers... maybe like mother??? :)

Anyway, I would like to take time to tell Jaron and Maycee the top 10 reasons I love them, so today this is for Jaron:

10. I love that when I go to put on my shoes (doesn't matter which ones) I generally find a small toy figure or dinosaur sleeping inside of them that Jaron has lovingly put to bed in the coziness of my shoe (never Ryan's mind you... just mine).

9. I love that he is working on being polite, when we have visitors stop by and Jaron (on his own) states "You are sure welcome to join us for dinner..."

8. I love that being any animal in the world is Jaron's favorite hobby. I love how into character he gets with his movements and sounds.

7. I love the excitement that rises all the way from his toes when I mention dad is on his way home from work. I love to see his anticipation as he sits on the front yard waiting and the way he runs (no... sprints) to the truck to growl and hug Ryan as he gets out.

6. I love that when I offer to come and play a game with him (I'm thinking like puzzles, books, chutes and ladders...) he ends up making me play Pongo and Perdita (from 101 Dalmations) and we have to crawl around and bark. I love how happy he is the whole time we are looking so ridiculous.

5. I love the way he laughs. Anyone that has heard is deep, belly laugh knows what I am talking about.

4. I love that he tells me EVERYTHING! He talks from sun up to sun down. He talks about traffic, weather, movies, church, dirt, cooking, friends, animals, bathroom topics, the elderly, computers... you name it... we have had the conversation. Sometimes, by the end of the day I forget to be thankful for this, but I am. I love to hear his thoughts! Even when he says them in Spanish.

3. I love that Jaron is so happy with his little sister... he is so quick to hug, kiss, and climb all over her. (Which she seems to love more than even Ryan or I...)

2. I love that Jaron thrills on making people laugh. He will practice in front of a mirror for hours on a particularly goofy face (usually learned from his dad) that will make someone laugh. He thrives on laughter and that can only be a good attribute!

1. I love his hugs and kisses, little words of praise to me, encouragement, and just the fact that Heavenly Father has loaned such a little Spirit to me to raise! I love that he is my kid!

Trick-or-Treat

Trick or Treat is Jaron's favorite phrase... What kid wouldn't like to only say those 3 words and then have everyone give them candy??? Seriously, best day ever for Jaron!

His holiday started with a parade and party at preschool... which he loves! It then ended with lots of visits to family and friends. In case you can't tell, Jaron was a buzzing bee and Maycee was a cat... (although her coat top was very hot and she didn't wear it most of the night.) I was also a bad mom and let her take her helmet off for like 3 hours so we could do her hair and see her cute little head. We are so happy at how well the helmet is working! Yeah...

Aren't sugar-hangovers great?

Mac photo booth anyone?

If you are familiar with this little time-killer, you know how hard it can make you laugh... If you are not then you really should buy a mac just to play around on it. Parental Discretion Advised for the following bizarre photos below.

If Jaron ever cannot be found, you are certain to find him on the computer in the office taking pictures of himself and laughing uncontrollably... This kid is way too smart!

Are we sure daddy doesn't need a helmet of his own???

Still All Smiles

Here's our weekly update... Maycee received her new PARTY hat this week and we think she looks darling in it! Doctors recommended this to help her head shape correctly and we hope she will thank us someday in the future... because she is not right now. She has adjusted great and our only sadness is missing out on seeing her beautiful hair (we had to cut it near completely off for the helmet). Oh well... it's just hair and will grow back and her smile is still just as big as ever. Jaron has been using the big boy potty for several days and that has brought a smile to everybody... thanks again Mary!

Even with the helmet Maycee finds ways to have fun with her buddies! Plus we don't have to worry about her bumping her head.

Last week our family was hit by the 24 hour flu bug. Wendi purchased these cool fever reducer gel packs for kids and Jaron insisted that I wear one with him...it actually felt really good. Don't we look great chillin together...HaHa

Sweet Baby Mace

I was looking through our blog this morning, and realized we sure don't have as many photos of Maycee as we do of Jaron. The only reason I can think of is that she is so sweet and so adaptable that she really doesn't have all the stories and crazy moments that we share about Jaron. All she really needs to do is smile (in between sucking her thumb) and it makes my day light up. So Maycee, this post is for you!

PoTtY TrAiNiNg...NoT WhAt It UsEd To Be!!!

So...Here is a brief recap of last weekend in our home! We decided it was time to start potty training Jaron...so we laid out all of his "totally awesome" super hero underwear and Wendi started off the day putting him in a brand new crisp pair of "big boy undies"...which Jaron really thought was cool. Jaron sat on the toilet...did some tinkling...and then got off as Wendi set the timer for 20 minutes...all along asking Jaron if he needed to go potty. 2o minutes was up and Wendi grabbed Jaron to take him to the toilet when she felt a warm and damp sensation on her hand...Yep! You guessed it...Jaron had gone in his pants...thats #1! Wendi reprimanded him and put him in the shower to rinse him off...this went on pretty much all day...2,3,4,5,6, maybe 7 times. Saturday afternoon we were tired and Jaron was tired and we had decided to give up...but then I (Ryan) had a brilliant idea. Jaron LOVES playhouse disney so I got him all situated in the bathroom and put him on the toilet and said "As soon as you go in the toilet you can get off"...well that idea backfired as you will see from the picture below! Apparently Jaron is not ready for the toilet!

What a trooper!!!!!

Jaron's Pledge

I wanted to share a conversation Wendi had with Jaron this morning when she picked him up from pre-school...

Wendi: "Hi Jaron, did you have fun at pre-shcool today?"
Jaron: "Um Mommy, my teachers made us do something wierd today."
Wendi: "What did they make you do Jaron?"
Jaron: "They made us talk to a Flag."
Wendi: "What did you say?"
Jaron: "I don't know the words were really big'"
Wendi: "Did you say I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America...?"
Jaron: "Yes Mommy...do they make you talk to the flag too??"

I appreciate that Jaron was able to say the Pledge of Allegiance this morning... probably along with millions of other Americans as we all remember the events that took place on this date in 2001. I hope we can take a minute to remember those who sacrificed their lives for America during these events.

I also hope that each of us would extend a thought or prayer of support to those who are serving our country where ever they may be...

God Bless America!

Happy Birthday Jaron!

On July 20, Jaron celebrated his 3rd Birthday! Much to our dismay...Wendi went walking with a friend who has a boy that Jaron likes to play with. Later that afternoon her friend informed us that her kids were sick with HFMD (hand, foot and mouth disease). Being the concerned mother that Wendi is, and not wanting to risk giving the virus to other kids at the party for fear that Jaron might also have the disease, she cancelled the birthday party. All in attendance were grandparents and and aunt and uncle. Though there was noone there Jaron's age, he had a great Pirate Party nonetheless! We will be having another party soon to make up for the one he had to miss!!!

Post Reunion Party Time!

After our family reunion concluded our immediate family decided to stay in Utah for a couple more days to celebrate my oldest sister Christen's birthday, and also go to Lagoon. Jaron had a blast being at Lagoon with all of his cousins. We had them all wear their matching shirts so it would be easy to find them if one of them became MIA!

So Sorry for the Delay...

Hi Everybody!!!

So I don't really have an excuse for not posting...and I won't attempt to make one up. I will just tell you what we have been up to. Earlier in July we were able to go to Eden Utah where we met up with the rest of the Mortensen clan for a Family Reunion. My dad has 10 brothers and sisters and each of them have between 4 and 7 kids...and some of the kids have between 2 and 4 kids themselves...so we had quite a gathering and had an awesome time getting to see everyone and even meeting new family members. Attached are just a few pictures of the reunion of the 500 or so that were taken! Don't worry all of you family members...I have not forgotten about the picture CD's I am going to mkae for everyone!!

Kinda big ducks...

So we took our kids to the park to spend some time playing and feeding the ducks. Jaron started to make some close friends while we were there

Jaron: "I think I will just go over and introduce myself."

"Hi there, my name is Jaron. What's yours?"

"Oh gosh, you are a funny duck!"

"I brought some bread that I would like to share with you..."

"Hey wait, where are you going... I thought we were friends..."

While Jaron was making new friends, Maycee was thoroughly bored waiting in her stroller, but once aunt kendra saved her she felt much better!
